On the first day of World Breastfeeding Week (Aug 1) a dear friend sent me this picture of her little one nursing and pointed out that it takes a special kind of boob to nurse a toddler sitting beside you and facing the same direction... ;)
In celebration of all types of nursing mommas ~ and all their fabulous lactating, life-saving, life-sustaining breasts ~ small and large, puffy and flat, being used for the first time, or being used for the last time... Here's to you, you makers of milk!!
"being used for the last time" that phrase breaks my heart, because I am nursing my last baby... I hope he hangs on for a long time.ReplyDelete
awww! yayyyy for happy posts! :)ReplyDelete
oh, i just love this. i can nurse like that, too. ;)ReplyDelete
that is a GORGEOUS little girl.
That is so adorable! I wish my boob did that when I nursed! Tandem would be so much easier for sure.ReplyDelete
I nurse my daughter like that all the time lol. It always looks really uncomfortable to others but I prefure it over her laying in my lap.ReplyDelete
great pic! I am not that bendy but what an amazing gift and talent! :)ReplyDelete
This post really did make me LOL! I love the photo, and nursing my 3rd, and last, I can totally relate. All boobies are special :)ReplyDelete
LOVE it! I can do that too. Yay for "special" boobs! :)ReplyDelete
I love this! Before I had children I was worried about loosing theReplyDelete
perky-ness of my boobs once I did have a baby...now that I'm BFing baby #3...I think a boob like that would come in really handy:) It's funny how our priorities change once we become parents!
I'm jealous, I wish mine did that! No matter, I love the pair I do have (and all their wonderful milk-making abilities), and so does my daughter. :)ReplyDelete
I've got one of those! lol.ReplyDelete
This is a super-epic win! LOL The little girl looks so blaise, too. "Just sittin' here, drinkin' from my customized boobie."ReplyDelete
Beautiful! She looks so sleepy and content.ReplyDelete
And yes, "beng used for the last time" made me sniffle, too, as my growing-up-too-fast last baby toddles through the "not Terrible when you're nursng Twos".
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!ReplyDelete
That is BEAUTIFUL!!! I feed my three-year-old daughter with boobs like that :)ReplyDelete
haha! reminds me of me and my 15 month old. i can lay flat on my back and she can lay next to me, on her side, and nurse. :)ReplyDelete
I am so grateful to be surrounded in my life by people who have been supportive, encouraging, and fully understanding of the beauty that is breastfeeding your children. Without them, I may have actually stopped at 6mos, and not made it until 2.5 years with my son, or who knows how long with my daughter (now 13 mos).ReplyDelete
who the heck even flagged this on the Facebook page? that's lame, apparently people in this world can't handle non-pornographic breasts with children attached to them. it's not like all 44 comments were dirty! they were all supportive and reassuring. one day hopefully our society will be open enough to NOT flag such beautiful things.ReplyDelete
lol...I wish my breasts were that flexible!ReplyDelete
I can do that too :) With my two year old & we both love it! Thank you for sharing & shame on facebook for deleting breastfeeding pictures. Thats what breast are for!ReplyDelete
That is hilarious!! She is like watching something else gojng on, just chillin with mommies boob! Too cute!ReplyDelete
That's an awesome boob. Wish mine had done that. :)ReplyDelete
Heehee, I feed my 3 yr old that way. It is the only way I can keep my 9 month old from pulling her sister's hair when I feed them at the same time :DReplyDelete
Cute picture, I love how she's holding the boobie!ReplyDelete
I'm with Karan - simply beautiful and impressive!ReplyDelete
must be a man who flagged it, jealous that woman can make milk.ReplyDelete
as a Mommy nursing her 2 1/2 year old I would have loved to see that picture in my FB feed.ReplyDelete
My husband and I both had a great laugh at the pic, thank you for sharing, I love how her little hand is tucked in her pants like Al Bundy!ReplyDelete
Beautiful picture mama! Thank you! I am now breastfeeding my 4th child and loving it!ReplyDelete
feeding in funky positions (and feeding in general) has given me a new appreciation for my big boobs which I used to consider a burden. But also that I think ALL boobs are wonderful, whatever their size and there are some positions that smaller breasts do much more easily than my big ones :) heck, I just ♥ boobies!ReplyDelete
All shapes and sizes of breasts are "normal" (someone had commented on how it was nice to see NORMAL breasts instead of always smaller perkier breasts) *wink, mine are small and still perfectly normal...not so perky, though! ha ha) and that our kiddos don't care what they look like anyway. ♥ReplyDelete
"being used for the last time" *snif* Mine would love to be used again!!ReplyDelete
Such a sweet photo...the most natural thing that child knows.ReplyDelete
We nursed like that a lot, too, my first and only-so-far... ANY way he could get the breast he would take it!ReplyDelete
My heart revels in the unity of mothers and fathers and their fans, celebrating the everyday miracle of nursing. Newborns to toddlers and beyond, it's all naturally wonderful.

I have prehensive boobs, too!ReplyDelete
I can do the position in the photo, and also, the flat on my back with toddler (21 months) beside me on her side thing.
AND when we're sidelying, she often rolls until she's facing *away* from me (I'm "spooning" her), with her head on my breast, *still latched*
(Did I mention that, prior to pregnancy, I'd lost about 200 lbs?)
On the other hand, she's decided that the signs for "bra" and "breast" involve grabbing her armpit.
After twins, I look like that too. Love all the pride you all share. You inspire me to be more proud of my "gelatinous puddle cakes".ReplyDelete
I'm nursing our first baby (3mos old. Actually he just went down for a nap a few minutes ago). But I always thought it weird that I had "two different sizes."ReplyDelete
Now that I'm nursing, I prefer him to nurse on the larger side, lol! He likes to sit up straddling one leg and whip his head around to look at everything/one in the room while he nurses. He's such a busy boy! It's during these times that the "big num num" comes in really handy. It still hurts when he tries doing it with the smaller one, lol!
