CDC Mandatory Vaccine Schedule: 1983 vs 2014

As of late, we've heard several (well intentioned) grandparents use the following argument in favor of blindly vaccinating with any and all injections available in the United States, "Well, you had all your vaccinations when you were born and you are just fine... Why not give them all to your baby?!"

The following chart highlights just one of the reasons that this argument is not logical. Vaccines (and the quantities in which they are given) in the U.S. are dramatically different today than they were 40, 30, or even 20 years ago.

When it comes to vaccines: Be informed. Know each individual vaccine and the disease it is correlated with. Know your individual child's risk factor both for getting the disease (and/or actually being harmed by it) and the likelihood of adverse effects due to over-vaccination. Know how natural, life-long immunity is built in the body, and how it benefits an individual over his/her lifetime. Understand the most powerful of infant immunizations - exclusive breastfeeding. Make decisions on a vax-by-vax basis. There is no reason to blindly say 'yes' to 36-38 injections before your baby turns 66 months of age.

The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears (who advocates for an alternative schedule of vaccinations), Take Charge of Your Child's Health by Dr. Wootan (who takes a more natural immunization approach to wellness), The Vaccine Safety Manual and several others are good 'even keeled' places to begin your investigation if you've not previously delved into vaccine and disease prevention research.

  1. thank goodness I educated myself before my son was born. We have had a few vacc's but very few and NEVER that horrid hep b shot.. the nurse at the hospital even told us 'unless you're taking him out or some drug use or tattoos anytime soon it really is pointless"

  2. I am the grandmother to an incredible 23 month old.. i really don't understand any grandparent make these types of comments, not only about vaccs, but about anything really.. As time goes on more and more things are found out about human behavior, physical, emotional, mental make up.. that it only stands to reason that we as people need to change.. I love my children and did the best of what i knew how to do.. but wouldn't we want and strive for even better for our grandchildren? as far as vaccs.. These days, they get so much more pumped into them.. i was shocked when i learned when i brought my granddaughter in for her checkups, the amount of vaccines they wanted to pump into her in each sitting... its crazy to me.. that any parent or grandparent would want that for their child

  3. Yep, it's amazing how many people just blindly follow and put thousands of these toxins into their newborn babies and children.

  4. As of right now our 7 month old son has only had DTaP. But our pediatrician is pushing hard for us to vaccinate him with the rest and he is supposedly on a 'alternative' schedule. I need to do more research before his next appointment because right now I could use a lot more education in the vaccine area.

  5. While I appreciate your point, and totally agree, I really have a problem with your inclusion of the word "mandatory." The Federal government, having absolutely zero authority to require vaccination amongst the general citizenry, is very, very specific in that these are "recommended" vaccines. State laws may vary. Unfortunately.

We have a very open minded and often skeptical pediatrician and worked with her to develop a selective, "delayed," vaccination schedule appropriate for our daughter.

She received the initial Hep B shot just over a month ago (age 2) and we had her blood drawn yesterday for a surface antigen titer. If results of that show antibodies, there's no need to do the complete series. So vaccination education is not just yes or no, but there are alternative ways to administer many of them as well.

  6. Fakey - the word "mandatory" comes from the CDC guidelines. It is not the author's stance. There are, of course, ways to decline any or all vaccinations, but the federal government uses the term "mandatory" in their recommendations.

  7. I'm curious about the 'mandatory' part too. I was under the impression that kids couldn't enter kindergarten (in public schools) without the correct immunizations. Can someone enlighten me if that is different?

  8. My three favorite vaccine points are as follows:
    1) Gee, I wonder why they USED to be called IMMUNizations? Lawyers understand the power of words....
    2) Always curious why the parents of vaccinated kids worry about non-immunized kids?
    3) I'd love to know the "bottom line" per new vaccine created(around $250 million). I know we've got chicken pox (varicella) now, has anyone heard about the upcoming sprained ankle and skinned knee vaccine?

  9. A friend of mine commented about the "Mandatory" verbiage issue on FB after I shared this. Here is a copy of my response that clears it up a bit.

I see how this can be seen as an error, but actually the CDC does use the term "mandatory" quite often in their publications due to the fact that in 1809 the first mandatory vaccination law was passed in the United States. By 1981, all 50 s...tates had enacted legislation demanding measles vaccination to enroll in school. Currently there are over 200 vaccination laws, appropriation bills, and policies considered during each state legislative session across the country.

According to these laws and the CDC vaccines are mandatory in the United States to enroll in school (and may also effect some areas of childcare, employment, being incarcerated, attending college, enlisting in the military, working in a health care field, live in an nursing home, the developmentally disabled, and when dealing with child custody issues, etc.) As of 2007, 113 vaccine antigens from at least 10 different vaccines had been added as school requirements. The CDC says themselves that some of the recommended vaccines are mandatory, to attend school in this country, but that there are exemptions in some cases.

To ensure that these mandatory vaccines are being given to each and every child nationwide vaccination databases are under construction in all states, although they are being heavily contested.

There has been more then one instance of court orders of vaccination due to our country's mandatory laws regarding vaccination. In 2007 Maryland public health officials removed children from the custody of their "neglectful parents" for refusing to have them vaccinated. The parents of 1,100 children were forced to appear in court and were threatened with criminal charges, fines, and up to 10 days in jail for "noncompliance".

Basically the recommendations that are posted in physician offices and given to parents are what the CDC recommends, but some of those are mandatory to enroll in school.

A great quote on the subject is:

"The moment you take a medical prescription and you incorporate it into act of Parliament, it passes beyond confines of purely medical question and becomes essentially a social and political one." - Hadwen Gloucester.

And here are just a few places you can find the CDC stating that vaccination is mandatory.

  10. Vaccinations is a touchy subject for parents. Every parent should read more than one book on vaccines to get even a good idea about what is in them, the horrible reactions a child can have, how they are tested etc.
I am on my 7th book and I have found that the pertussis
vaccine was tested on rats. The rats were still gaining weight and therefore they are "safe." what the heck!? So I keep reading book after book and I can not find any information about how or if they were even tested. Someone help me find that info. Also find the testing for safety on vaccines given 3-7 at a time at baby well check ups because I can not find any safety testing!

  11. Eh, I guess the distinction between State and Federal law doesn't matter if you're in a pro-vaccine mandate State. And I suppose that since I work in public policy, I'm more sensitized to the distinction between acknowledging that mandates exist and the actual issuing of mandates.

Tamara- do you have any more information about the 2007 Maryland situation? I live in Maryland and we tend to consider ourselves lucky that it is so easy to obtain a partial/complete vaccination exemption for school here.

Oh, and regarding VACCINATION vs. IMMUNIZATION- it totally acknowledges that receiving a vaccine does not guarantee immunity. Vaccination is the action, immunity is one of the body's possible reactions. Laws and policies can require the jab, they cannot force the vaccine to work as the label says!

  12. Anonymous was asking about kids going to school and needing to be vaccinated. Many (unfortunately not all) states have waivers so that parents of non-vaccinated children can sign off on that and send them. I have four children who have never received any vaccines. Three of them are in school. I live in a state that accepts all three waivers: philosophical (the one we use - basically we don't "believe in vaccines"); religious; medical. I believe that the latter two require documentation from a rabbi/priest/?? or doctor but I'm not certain of that. I've never had a problem with our kids in school. Hope that helps.

    2. In 1979 I had the vaccine and was hospitalized for whooping cough just a month later. I was an infant. My daughters school had 14 cases of chicken pox in vaccinated children. Don't fear unvaccinated children fear big pharma And their lies

    3. Props to you for being openminded. Even the CDC has admitted to the fact that vaccinated children are responsible for the the current wave of pertussis, NOT unvaccinated children.

Also, just one week ago, I spoke to a mother here in Mississippi (I am with the Mississippi Parents for Vaccine Rights & so I get to meet and speak with lots of parents regarding vaccine adverse effects and injury) Her son was given the newly mandated Dtap before 7th grade. The mom is a RN and recognized her previously healthy son was in respiratory distress less than 12 hours after the shot. His O2 levels bottomed out and he developed a whooping cough. She stated that it was the scariest 3 days of her life. He recovered last week, praise God, but that story (and I hear A LOT of REAL LIFE instances) should certainly make one think twice before deciding one way or another regarding vaccines.

A question I like to ask of anyone researching vaccines: Are we replacing short term infectious diseases with chronic lifetime illness? I choose chicken pox and measles over diabetes and autism any day.

Alergies and ADD are in the genes, so it makes good sense to just say NO TO that nasty cocktail of chemicals. My current problem is both my family who has recently been asserting verballyand suggesting strongly, "oh..autism isnt caused by vaccinnes" WHATEVER!!! I sooo am ,VERY VERY MAD AND DISTRUST MY FAMILY!!!..Why do they think they get to make decisions about vaccinations??? MOVE ASIDE GRANDPA/GRANDMA...last time,i checked..YOU ARE,NOT the parents!!! It is a decision that DH AND MYSELF get to make!!!! Buzzz Off!!!!
Seriously..i am very very afraid they will NOT RESPECT OUR DECISION TO,NOT VACCINATE. I feel I cannot ever , leave DS WITH them . Does anybody else have similar situation??? Really..i AMafraid...afraid they will get a syringe/vial and inject DS while he sleeps. What are, your thoughts?? I just want to be able to raise OUR DS with my DH and we,get tio make THOSE DECISIONS!!!

    5. for the grandparent situation- Why do you have to even tell them that your child isn't vaccinated if you are that afraid of what they will do. Tell them he is getting the vaccinations on an alternative schedule recommended by your pediatrician. That 's what we do and then we choose which to give and when. You should look at the 1983 schedule (it's what we are doing with our son)- that's the "new wave" and it's only giving 10 vaccines over 18 yrs instead of the new recommended 36. I did just fine and it's the vaccinations I was given. BTW the pneumococcal was given to my daughter and she ended up with a raging pneumonia about a month later.

    7. One of my parents (my children's grandparent) is a physician with easy access to vaccines -- these have been brought into our home on numerous occasions, and "left for us in case we change our mind..." Not all grandparents are getting vaccines 'from the street' -- some do so because they are genuinely buying into the myth that vaccines protect their beloved grandchildren against every horror known to man (in the past, present and potential future) and they think that they are helping. I'm hoping that none have been given against our knowing in our own home, but I also cannot ever *fully* trust them to take care of our babies alone because of this. And that is sad...

I totally agree, there is a pertussis outbreak in the county I live in. Main reason why is because the "herd immunity" is no longer there because of parents who don't vaccinate their children. Not only is this putting our vaccinated children and young babies at risk, it is putting our elderly at risk as well. This disease was just about eradicated a few years ago and now it is back and coming on full force. What about all these other deadly/debilitating diseases that are that are rarely seen, that most are vaccinated for? What are we going to do when those come back and the non-vaccinated children fall ill and die then who is going to be to blame?

What most people fail to understand is that children are built to be exposed to germs and it is best to expose them while they are young. If you know and understand basic human anatomy you would see this. The primary lymphatic gland in the body is the thymus gland, the primary function of this gland is processing and maturing t-cells the ones that are associated with antibody production. The thymus is at it strongest in infants and children. This gland begins to atrophy at puberty there for that means the main source of new antibody production, the antibodies that will protect your children's body throughout their lives will be very tiny and will be producing very few new antibodies. While I completely agree that exclusively breastfeeding if one of the best things you can do, you still need to do more.

    1. "If we think for a moment that we are taking infants with immature thymus glands (the main gland responsible for proper immune system function does not mature until around five years of age) and exposing them to numerous live and attenuated viruses, much more frequently than the child could possibly be exposed to any of these diseases, we may begin to understand some of the very discomfiting stat...istics that have evolved since the age of immunization. Rather than decreasing childhood morbidity and improving the health of all subsequent generations being immunized against these diseases that have affected mankind for thousands of years, we have instead seen a dramatic rise in childhood illness in the form of ADD, ADHD, autism, allergies, learning disabilities, infectious diseases, auto-immune illnesses and, most importantly, cancer. Cancer has been on a frighteningly dramatic rise in small children over the past decades and shows no signs of letting up. Mortality rates for childhood cancers are unacceptably high although technology has slowed the course of death." Dr. Robert A Kornfeld

http://www.nctimes.com/news/local/sdcounty/article_1e57b3db-8302-5313-99b3-f15d48b8829f.html. Vaccination is actually causing outbreaks - nature abhors a vacuum.

Herd immunity is impossible, Too many adults are not UTD and their immunity has waned. Babies are not the only ones who need to be vaccinated to attempt herd immunity. It also needs to have a higher percentage of the population immune than the vaccines claim to provide immunity too (based on seroconversion). Only live vaccines can claim to be able to cause herd immunity anyway. for example, the pertussis portion of the DTaP does not provide immunity, it just prevents the bacteria from producing the toxin that kills the scillia and causes the cough. People walk around carrying and spreading whooping cough all the time, they just don't know they're infected. This actually makes vaccinated individuals more dangerous to un/under vaccinated people and babies because they are asymptomatic.

  19. "What most people fail to understand is that children are built to be exposed to germs and it is best to expose them while they are young."

Exactly--so why are we vaccinating them to try to keep them from building their immunity?

And what are we going to do when the 'non-vaccinated fall ill?' It's funny, it's always the vaxed that are worried about the unvaxed dying in mass numbers yet WE are not worried about ourselves--we know better.

    ReplyDelete
  20. How does the last paragraph support not vaccinating? I am simply stating that based on how our bodies are built to produce antibodies that will protect us for the rest of our lives. The exposure to the viruses through vaccines is needed. They provide our bodies with the necessary tools to know the proper make up to process and mature the t-cells that contain the maps for the antibodies to protect us. Your t-cells need to be exposed to a disease to know how to produce the antibodies to fight it, which is why dead or weakened diseases are in vaccines, to provide that antibody map for the t-cells. By exposing children to these vaccines while they are younger their bodies are more built and equipped to handle versus, whereas an adult whose thymus gland is nearly gone. If your body is not ever exposed to a disease while you still have a good functioning thymus gland the likeliness of having immunity to that disease later in life is small.

    http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/T/thymus_gland.html

"their immunity has waned" I do understand that, and it is something that can happen, that is why it is important for adults to make sure they are UTD. There is a reason for the more virulent strain/ mutation of pertussis as well, that is because of individuals who have pertussis (example: an unvaccinated individual) who fail to comply with treatment by fully following through and completing their medications for the disease, thus giving it the opportunity to mutate. This reason is exactly why I am worried about the "unvaxed" because they are unfortunately getting sick with these diseases. My children are vaccinated and now they are putting my children and myself at risk. So yes I am very worried about myself and my family because I took the time to protect them from these horrible diseases which are now showing up in the unvaccinated, mutating, and now posing a threat to us.

I am worried for this reason down here. I am also worried for the reason that new babys who are not yet protected, I am worried for those who are immunocomprimised, those children who are undergoing cancer treatments with weak immune systems who are exposed, I am worried for our elderly who get exposed. Unvaccinated individuals can carry a disease in it's pre-stages and not even know they are sick therefore exposing the new baby next door, the friend at daycare who is undergoing immunosuppressive treatment, and grandma whose immunity has waned. Also what about the children who cannot receive vaccines because of allergies? They are put at risk by no choice of their own because of your choice. What happened to common human decency and caring for the health and well being of others? If not vaccinating you and your family only affected you and your family, it wouldn't bother me one bit, what you choose, but it doesn't and that is what bothers me. If you choose a delayed schedule fine I see no problem in that but not doing it all together is where the problem comes in.

Third child, I refused to vaccinate, her father did, she also has issues. Last child, never vaccinated, barely been sick, a few ear infections, colds, and such, but she is great! no emotional issues, she is happy carefree and is a happy child, unlike my other beautiful children. He then went on to explain why our child would need or not need them. After talking to my doctor and doing some research I feel some vaccination are important for the protection of my child but some are not. We have a 3 month old and she has had the pneumococcus, Hib, and DTaP. These are the ones my doctor felt were important. The others he feels can either be eliminated or waited. 30. My concern with the CDC is stated best by Representative Dan... Burton: "CDC routinely allows scientists with blatant conflicts of interest to serve on influential advisory committees that make recommendations on new vaccines... these same scientists have financial ties, academic affiliations, and vested interests in the products for companies for which they are supposed to be providing unbiased oversight."

CDC is pushing a vaccination policy without scientific merit or proof of efficacy- and those who are doing so are compromised by profit. Robert F. Kennedy wrote a 2005 report on mercury entitled "Deadly Immunity" (it can be found: http://www.robertfkennedyjr.com/articles/2005_june_16.html), which discusses a meeting of scientists, regulators, and vaccine reps to address overwhelming new research proving a link between mercury and autism. One concrete result of the meeting: CDC commissioned a cover-up study from the Institute of Medicine, which turned over the research to a private company, AHIP, to sidestep Freedom of Information accessibility (this is discussed in the link above).

It's a tangled web that's been woven. My concern first and foremost is the health of our children- and until vaccinated vs. unvaccinated studies are conducted, we simply won't have adequate proof that they're safe.

Our 15 month-old has natural immunity- he is completely un-vaxxed, and he always will be. The threat of the disease is outweighed by the horrific side-effects of the vaccine in EVERY CASE. Please educate before you vaccinate, and educate ALL THOSE AROUND YOU. They will continue to push these needles into the blood of our children until we finally tell them "NO".

One concrete result of the meeting: CDC commissioned a cover-up study from the Institute of Medicine, which turned over the research to a private company, AHIP, to sidestep Freedom of Information accessibility (this is discussed in the link above)."

  33. The most obnoxious claim that I read here is the presumption that "mutant" strains only develop from individuals who get the regular virus and fail to take all their medication. That is one way...nature is another...antibiotic resistance in general because of over use is another. We do more vaccines than I would like, mainly because my pedi is pro-vaccine and because I have not been able to research it as in depth as I would like...however, we do a delayed schedule, and we avoid influenza, h1n1, and pertussis vaccines...and guess what, my three children ALL breastfed (oldest to 4.5 months, 2nd and 3rd to a year) were all in direct contact with one of my daycare kids...who was vaccinated against pertussis, and yet was on her third round of having it, and none of them were infected. 2 of them got a mild cough that lasted for 2 days, and then they were better. Imagine that...if we don't completely kill our immune systems by pumping them full of crap that "supposedly" strengthens them, then they actually function properly...on top of that...none of my kids (knock on wood) has ever had an ear infection (ages 4.5, 3, and 1) nor have they had strep, or anything like that. They have had a cold, but they get over it, partially through the help of probiotics, vitamins, and a healthy diet, and partially through their immunity from breastfeeding I believe. I think some vaccines are a necessary evil, but I think MANY are a ridiculous excuse for a profit. :(

  34. anonymous:ating that based on how our bodies are built to produce antibodies that will protect us for the rest of our lives.

What the promoters of vaccination failed to realize is that secretory IgA (an antibody found predominately in saliva and secretions of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tract mucosa) is the initial normal antibody response to all airborne and ingested pathogens. IgA helps protect against viral infection, agglutinate bacteria, neutralize microbial toxins, and decrease attachment of pathogens to mucosal surfaces.
Bypassing this mucosal aspect of the immune system by directly injecting organisms into the body leads to a corruption in the immune system itself whereby IgA is transmuted into IgE, and/or the B cells are hyperactivated to produce pathologic amounts of self-attacking antibody as well as suppression of cytotoxic T cells. As a result, the pathogenic viruses or bacteria cannot be eliminated by the immune system and remain in the body, where they cause chronic disease and thus further grow and/or mutate as the individual is exposed to ever more antigens and toxins in the environment.

No, in fact, that is EXACTLY what you are relying on.

I suggest she ask the Native American's how bad they thought small pox was and if they wish they would have had a vaccine. I suspect they thought it was pretty bad even though some survived, don't you?

  38. Vaccines are a scam. They do not work as described. Science fails every time it tries to imitate what is found in nature.

I have four children. My oldest was fully vaccinated, the rest have never had one shot. My oldest has bedwetting, insomnia, OCD, anxiety disorder, and other unexplained this like rashes and other skin conditions that show up periodically. My three unvaxed children have never had an ear infection, never had any illness beyond the common cold and stomach bug. This includes the time my oldest got Pertussis when my 3rd was only 2 weeks old. I had educated myself about the diseases so I knew how to treat it, but it was kinda scary. My unvaxed kids were exposed to the illness, developed natural immunity, and thanks to their awesome natural immune systems (and breastmilk) never got a symptom of the disease!

Hands down, whenever there is sickness around us with friends, family, or out in public, my oldest (vaccinated child) will get sick, but the rest do not or are very mild in comparison as to suffering and symptoms.

My unvaccinated children have very strong immune systems, and they are not the reason my oldest has a higher risk of illness. She has a higher risk of illness because the vaccinations weakened her natural immune system and she can't fight off the diseases as easily.

I do not fear disease, because I have educated myself. I believe my children will live happier, healthier lives as long as I protect them from the stab of the needle injecting them with false security.

All the parents out there vaccinating their children need to research the diseases and find out how to care for their sick kids, because vaccination is not 100% and can't come close to natural immunity from exposure. Your kids can and will get sick, vaccination is not a bullet-proof vest, if anything it's like Kryptonite to Superman!

  39. Vaccines are probably the single greatest achievement in the arena of public health.

The overwhelming majority of parents opposed to vaccinating their children are probably young enough that they don't have any direct experience with illnesses like polio, measles, or mumps, and the horrible suffering and long-term disability they cause.

And for parents who choose not to vaccinate their children: what about the children who are too young to be vaccinated, and end up contracting a potentially-fatal disease from your child who you deliberately declined to vaccinate?

When you decide not to vaccinate, you aren't just making a decision for yourself or your child: you're making a decision for every other child they come into contact with.

I'd think long and hard about that before you make the knee-jerk decision against vaccinating.

  40. "Vaccines are probably the single greatest achievement in the arena of public health."

I agree for the most part. However, the way some talk you would think Jenner and Pasteur were bad bad awful people for coming up with the idea of vaccines. I guess we should still have cholera, smallpox, and anthrax around to deal with on a regular basis. Maybe even polio. Maybe they'd like to ask a Deacon friend I know about that.

"The overwhelming majority of parents opposed to vaccinating their children are probably young enough that they don't have any direct experience with illnesses like polio, measles, or mumps, and the horrible suffering and long-term disability they cause."

This is true for me. Then I met my friend who is a deacon in the Episcopal church here and she had polio as a child. I've had an acquaintance who has had measles. A friends child recently had scarlet fever because of a case of strep fever not diagnosed. When things like whopping cough--a nearly eradicated disease start coming back there id a problem. Vaccines were not started as an industry. It was to help and save people. Then you get people like that lying British doctor and his Autism "study" .......I think h has done more harm for children's health then good. Since he is the one who was directly after fame and money...

"When you decide not to vaccinate, you aren't just making a decision for yourself or your child: you're making a decision for every other child they come into contact with." I agree and its not something to take lightly. The best thing is to read, ask questions and be informed. Don't be a sheep for any side. :)

    1. I think that the point of the article, is not that the creation of vaccines was bad, but the correlation between the increase of mandated vaccines as the years have gone by.
In 1983 there were 10 vaccines, and now it's almost 4 times that number.
      That is ridiculous.

  41. The least of my worries is "autism." Look at the list of the ingredients in the vaccines you decide to give your children.

I'd rather not have a dead child from choosing to inject poisons into his body. I say "poisons" because of the ingredients. Which they are.

I've seen and heard plenty of people affected by vaccines. One vaccine-injured girl lives up the street from my mother. Her parents sued over it and won. They have a big beautiful house now but that doesn't erase what was done to their daughter. She's wheelchair bound now, mentally handicapped and needs constant in-home care.

Could you live with yourself and the decision you made if you gave your child a vaccine and they either died or had a severe reaction? I couldn't. I would probably commit suicide.

I still find it completely absurd that people don't even expect other vaccinated children when ranting about their child getting some illness. A vaccine is not a cure-all. You can still get the disease or illness that you're trying to "immunize" for.

I'm not putting my child at risk to catch a disease FROM A VACCINATION! We are vaccinating for things that have been long gone or almost eradicated. Why are we doing this?! It makes no sense at all. I don't think vaccines had anything to do with that either. We have evolved, learned more and have better hygiene now.

When you choose to vaccinate your child you are exposing them to diseases/illnesses in which they may never have come into contact with their entire life. I'd rather let my child build a NATURAL immunity with limited exposure to those that have been recently vaccinated, diet, and hygiene.

Do any of you pro-vaccine folks even look at VAERS when you choose to vaccinate your child?

    http://vaers.hhs.gov/index

That's enough to keep me from injecting my son or myself with vaccines.

"Health cannot come through a needle.

You can get the shot and still get the illness.

Illnesses come and go; vaccine injuries can be for life.

Each shot is like Russian Roulette -- you never know when you'll get the "deadly bullet."

Reactions are far more than the 'one in a million' claimed by TPTB.

Many thousands of parents wish the had never vaccinated; very very few wish they had.

  42. Both of my children are fully vaccinated. My youngest was done on the recommended schedule, my oldest we stopped the DTP (this was before the acellular version) due to a bad reaction. My biggest problem is that many pediatricians are not willing to discuss vaccines at all, there's a very all-or-nothing viewpoint. My oldest had a very high fever which necessitated a trip to the ER. His pediatrician agreed that he should not continue that vaccine- which was within the guidelines on the manufacturer's pamphlet (at least at the time) but a later pediatrician (after the good one relocated) freaked out that we hadn't fully vaxed. After we called our old pedi and and her call, the new pedi relented, though she did recommend doing the acellular (which had just become available) since we had done diphtheria and tetanus separately already. Parents should be able to discuss vaccines with their doctors, and since these are things that pediatricians deal with every day, they should be familiar with the literature and the contraindications. One thing that scared me, was that at the time (mid ninties) one of the automatic vaccinations at birth wasn't even recommended for infants unless they had the disease in their home (Hep)

  46. SO very thankful and blessed that our family doctor encouraged us to educate ourselves on the politics, pressure, and ineffectiveness of vaccinations. We have practiced a natural immunity, non-vaccinating approach since birth, and our child is so healthy, it's unreal.

We can only pray that the medical community will soon see the horrific effects of placing precedence on the almighty dollar rather than the health of U.S. children. American kids have never been sicker than they are today (it's not just autism, but diabetes, asthma, GI disorders, etc.), and it is a travesty not only to our society, but to humanity itself.

  47. We had a planned homebirth and when we were transferred to the hospital, we lost complete control and they gave our precious girl a Hep B shot when I was sleeping after I told them TWICE that we did not intend to give our daughter the shot.

  48. My hospital gave me crap and I kept telling them that I would just have our ped give the hep b. Of course she never did...

  49. I had an OB say a similar thing to me when I refused the Heb B vax at my daughter's birth 15 months ago - she said "Good on you for refusing, if I were you I'd do the same thing. I vaxed my children who are now teens. If only I'd known then what I know now!" I was blown away. I normally have to defend my decision especially with DRs!!

And another interesting story...our Chiro attended a seminar on vaccines. The key note speaker was a lady who developed the vaccines in a lab and was selling their importance to a room full of natural therapists. At the end of the seminar my Chiro approached her and asked if she had children. She replied "yes." He then asked if they were vaccinated. She hesitated, then said "no"!! Doesn't that speak volumes?!

  50. How can an unvaccinated child have pertussis three times!?! That doesn't make any sense....once you have it, you shouldn't get it "again" especially since the child SHOULD of had natural immunities to it......I have done plenty of research on the whole vaccination/ADHD, Autism link and there is absolutely NO research that proves vaccines can be linked to them....if vaccinations "cause" things like ADHD and Autism why would some get it and not others!?

Totally agree that breastfeeding is the number one immune builder though!! God made it that way for a reason :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. You can look at each state's immunization requirements for more information and "mandatory" shots. You can also look up and read about all the ingredients for each shot. That is what is really scary. You have the right to know what each shot contains and what side effects are listed. If the vaccines just had safe ingredients there would not be such issues as we see in many kiddos who had "bad reactions". Vaccines are not just dead or weakened viruses. Do not just listen to the short list your doctors give at the office. That is not enough information to make a fully informed decision. Thank you Faith (see above) for the website link.

We have two healthy, beautiful children that have had ZERO shots. Schools like to scare you into giving your kids these toxins and will threaten to not allow your child in school. Their paperwork looks very governmental and official, but there is always the fine print. It is against the law to force anyone to vaccinate. We signed a form with our doctor's office "Refusal to Vaccinate" (which should be renamed, Refusal to Poison) and put it on file with the school district. Our children may attend, however IF there is an outbreak of say Measles then our children will stay home.

We spent hours and hours educating ourselves so that our children could stay healthy. I feel so sorry for those children whose parents blindly stand in line and inject poison into innocent babies and children.

  52. My friend's baby died of SIDS and he was in the caregiver's arms when he stopped breathing. She was very well versed in CPR, a minister's wife who was visited by friends at the time (several witnesses). And like every SIDS story I've ever heard, he recently had the DTaP. Also like every SIDS story I've ever heard, he screamed and cried that eerie vaccine injury cry for two weeks before he died. The doctors called it "colic". Oh I get so mad when I think about it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree i think most SIDS cases are vaccine injuries. Tell me why you have a medical community that has a solution to everything except babies randomly dying in their sleep usually at 2 months and 4 months when SIDS cases peaks and this is the time they are overloaded with vaccines. Hmmmmm odd... i think not. They know what it is. Its the brain swelling. Same thing with colic which cannot be explained and some just say babies cry and cry for no reason? UM NO. The baby is crying and crying from his brain swelling and swelling. I have never seen a unvaxxed baby with colic. Coincidence? I think not!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I've never seen an unvaxed baby with colic or jaundice either one. I keep waiting for the medical industry to come out with a new term - SADS - sudden adult death syndrome. That would help them explain away all the adults who suddenly drop dead after a round of vaccines (military) or those young healthy girls that played basketball, were stars on the track team, cheerleaders...suddenly dead for no reason? No reason except the HPV vaccine! UGH!

  55. wow crazy comment debate going on :)
I say pray about the decision... do your home work and find a good dr. who respects your opinion.

I wait to vaccinate after age 2. After battling sickness after sickness with my 1st born who was vaccinated through 18 mo. I was 21 when I had him and just did what my dr's said, I had no idea what I was doing...

I have 2 more sons since him and am now almost 30... and my 2nd and 3rd sons health was totally different than our 1st born. No ear infections... rarely sick. No crazy high fevers or swelling legs after vaccinations were given... much happier all together.

My 1st son has sensor issues and is very particular... my other two not at all. Totally different. Could be a coincident, but I have my doubts.

I really like this quote and will end on this note....

“Those who question the benefit of mass immunisation are not all irrational non-believers. Most support vaccination but are concerned at – and question the necessity for – the large number of vaccines and the early ages at which these are given. Many have studied the research, only to find – as I have – contradiction and uncertainty. They deserve to be treated with respect and given the opportunity for an open and honest debate.”

    - Dr. Richard Halverson, letter to the British Medical Journal

  56. It seems that medicine and proponents of vaccinations have built in excuses for any scenario.

Instead of admitting that clean water and sanitation practices along with naturally strong immune systems have helped eradicate disease they simply give credit to vaccination.

So many proverbials eggs have been put into the vaccination basket that very few will scrutinize the practice of vaccination.

It ultimately comes down to money and control, and the increase in "MANDATED" vaccines has grown to increase profits not to protect the population.

Blaming a change in virulence due to a person not being vaccinated is pure hogwash. The more likely scenario is the manipulation of virii that expedites the evolution.

When in doubt, blame the unvaccinated crowd. It works every time.

  57. I'm not saying I do or do not believe in immunizing children.

However, I do believe that the food we give our children is equal to if not more of a detriment to them in regards to things such as ADHD, allergies, etc. as one poster mentioned. Processed, chemical-ridden foods, foods with Red dyes, sugary foods, foods that lack Omega 3s, not enough vegetables or fruit (for some children not ANY vegetables or fruit) --- It's all going to impact their development.

Couple that with the extra chemicals we're using to "safeguard" the children from disease, and maybe these safeguards do seem like the culprit. Maybe they are the culprit.

Hard to pinpoint the exact culprit when the whole world is chemical. Look at the baby lotion you're putting on your babies, for example: it has Phthalates!

  60. The Hep B vaccine wasn't availible in 1971 when I was born. By a fluke, I got a job in the tech department of a children's hospital after college, and was offered the vaccine if I wanted it. Not long after I finished my 6 month vaccine course, my husband came up positive for Hep B. Cause? A stripper girlfriend, whom he vanished with right after the diagnosis.

To this day, I thank that random vaccine for saving my liver, and probably my life. How can I offer my son less protection? We will all make mistakes in....whatever....that will run us face to face with things we'll never shake. My brush with scarlet fever at age five has left me with a shaky immune system my entire life. If there was a vaccine for my son for strep, I would take it. I will give him the Gardisil vaccine, because I don't want him to accidentally give his future wife cervical cancer.

I'm not going to blindly use vaccines that I've found to suck...like the influenza vaccine. I've found it does absolutely no good. But...I'm a fan of a lot of vaccines, because one of them kept me from losing my liver.

  62. To the 2 anonymous posters who claim that whopping cough (pertussis) is a problem because there isn't "herd immunity" because people aren't vaccinating, there are 3 big problems with your theory. 1) Pertussis vaccine does not & can not create herd immunity. It makes the symptoms less severe in people who get the disease. That's it. Which, by the way, makes people unaware they have it, thinking they only have a bad cold, so they go out into public & spread it instead of staying home until they're better. Whopping cough is a cyclical disease, it reoccurs every 5 years or so and no amount of vaccinating has ever affected that.

    2) A great deal of evidence exists that the current whopping cough cases are a mutated, and far more dangerous, variant of the vaccine strain of pertussis.

3)Despite people not vaccinating, the vaccination rates in children are well above levels for "herd immunity". All states have a vaccination rate well over 90%. However, herd immunity simply does not exist for any disease, even those whose vaccines actually have a possibility of it, because the majority of teens and adults are no longer covered by the vaccines they had as children. Non-vaccinators aren't relying on herd immunity, because when you include those who vaccines have worn off, no where in the world has high enough rates to create it. Herd immunity does not exist in vaccinated populations because vaccines wear off and no one knows for sure exactly how long any vaccine will last in any individual. Herd immunity is only possible in a population with natural immunity.

  63. I wanted to throw out that not all those shots have been recommended for my baby who was born in Aug 2010.

So far, we have only skipped the hepB after birth & the rotovirus shot, we have gotten everything else on schedule. At 2 months, he got dtap & hepB. At 6 months he got dtap & polio. At 12 months he got varicella & MMR. This chart shows 25 shots being the norm by 12 months, and that is just not true. Even if we had gone by the routine guidelines given by our doctor, it would be 8, not 25.

My other child was born in 1998 and he was actually given 14 shots by his 1st birthday. I was surprised they've wanted to do so few.

I'm all for selective and delayed vax. I'm not for alarmist exaggerations.

In fact they have never even had tylenol until my 14 year old got braces and I gave it to her for her pain. They are all three very healthy children and are very intellegent. I am a chiropractor and they get regular adjustments, when my children get sick or have a headache they don't ask for tylenol they ask for an adjustment. Vaccines are not about keeping our kids healthy they are about how much money the pharmaceutical companies can make off the American people. I am not saying you should not vaccinate your children because I believe that should be the CHOICE of the parent. If you feel that is the right thing to do for your child that is your choice, but don't tell me I'm a bad parnent for not vaccinating my children because that was my choice. I believe me it was an educated one!!

But that doesn't mean I'm not open-minded on the subject so please do not jump all over me for being so. I'm genuinely interested in my question.

  68. I am looking for more info on all of this and it is a very interesting debate. I am thinking about doing a delayed/limited schedule on my new baby. I do have to say, my 19mo has had all the vaccines on her schedule and never got sick until a week ago with some sort of viral infection that lasted 3 days. She is also still breastfeeding 1-2 times a day, so that may be why she has not gotten sick. My experience with vaccines has not been bad, but I do believe that parents should research both sides and talk to a trusted doctor about their concerns.

Our lives have been hell..not to think the pharmacutical companies even care about our loss and our pain and suffering. If I would have known about the deadly toxins that harmed my sons nervous system were in the vaccinations, I would have said no to offering up my child as a sacrificial lamb ! I would not have vaccinated my son.

  72. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A STUDY COMPARING A FULLY VACCINATED POPULATION AGAINST AN UNVACCINATED POPULATION. The reason given is because it would be "unethical". That is a crock. There are many, many children out there who have never been vaccinated. Why not gather their medical histories and compare them to my children? I would never have given my children these vaccines had I known what was in them or what reactions my children had. Pediatricians see the children for 5-10 minutes at every visit. They do not see the screaming, fevers, refusal to eat, or the loss of speaking skills. "Oh, he's the baby, brothers are probably talking for him...he'll eat when he's hungry...it's probably just a tummy ache..." My son screamed for a year. If he wasn't screaming, he was asleep. He quit sleeping. He slept for maybe 4 hours a day. That is not an exaggeration. I was a literal zombie for almost two years because of these vaccines. Please, for your children's sake, do not vaccinate according to the schedule, and do lots of research on these vaccines. My children have serious health issues that no one else in my family or my husband's family have ever dealt with. Please, don't take my word for it. Do your own research. Follow the money, who profits from these vaccines? There is a revolving door policy with our government and the vaccine manufacturers. Please, do your own research!

  73. It is the individual's choice to vaccinate. My son has had no reactions to any of his, I am not saying that some do suffer injury. Educate and make an informed choice. I will not be doing the HPV vaccine though and I never do flu shots. My son had Autism, yet it was visable to us at 5 months of age, he hit no developmental mile stones due to a birth injury.

  74. To the 2nd to last Anon ~ while a very small % cannot nurse their babies, and a small number of sweet little ones cannot breastfeed (for a variety of physical reasons - being born too premature one of them), ALL babies benefit from human milk. I believe that is what MrsHaggie was getting at. :) There are always donors through milkshare programs like Human MIlk 4 Human Babies, Eats on Feets, and Milkshare. Every human baby - no matter when they are born - deserve the vital immune protection that only human milk can provide. Hopefully we'll see a day soon when all mothers have easy access to human milk, no matter what happens to them at birth.

  75. SPEAKING OF THE WHOOPING COUGH VAX... I just read this last night....

says that vax kids are more at risk and they need either their 5th or 6th shot....

A child's risk of pertussis increased each year after their final shot.

Children were 1.6 times more likely to develop pertussis two years after vaccination than in the first year after vaccination. That risk increased to 2 times more likely during year three, and 2.6 times more likely over year four, compared with the risk at year 1.

By six years after vaccination, the risk had increased to 7 times what it was in the first year.

Tartof noted that if vaccinated children develop pertussis, their condition is less severe if they have received all five shots.

  76. @ Peggy67

All of these people commenting ARE the people doing the research. What you see are a bunch of people who are educating themselves and not liking what they see. The comparison in this article is between 1983 and 2010. Someone vaccinated in 1983 is only 28 years old today. Any vaccinations added to that list after that date really do not give any proof into any long term effectiveness. That person being vaccinated in 1983 is also part of a beginning generation, considered to possibly be the first that will not live as long or as healthy as the previous. (Researched) I would like to take your advice, but I also see that somewhere down the line you have not received a "grammar and spelling" vaccine and I am afraid of catching your illness if I talk to you too long.

  77. "Vaccines are probably the single greatest achievement in the arena of public health."

If this is so, why did disease drop off at the same or greater level when hand washing was introduced in counties that did not get vaccines?

Also, ABO, a blood incompatibility can cause Jaundice in non-vax babies...I know, It happened to us...
Now, because my kids have Kernicterus, they are recommended not to get vax...because they have a brain injury that makes them much more likely to be vaccine injured.

Tho even with a brain injury, my non-vax kids are much healthier than any vax'd kids I know of.

  78. Does anyone on here have any more information on the mainstream manufacturing of vaccinations using cells taken from human embryos (which are destroyed in the process)? I have been told that the link between autism and vaccination has to do with the fact that this foriegn genetic material used in the vaccine can attach to a young infant's genetic material--thus causing random mutations that lead to autism. I was told that if you still want to vaccinate you should wait until the child is older and their DNA is less likely to pick up these random peices of the dead embryo's DNA from the vaccine. But if like me you are against the destruction of unborn humans, the Polio vaccine is supposedly the only one still made with a live virus (?) and not using embryo DNA, and thus is OK to use. Has anyone else heard of this? If so, where? I want to know more but I don't know where to look.

  79. Then why not give us a choice for "all natural" vaccines?? I would have to worry about a lot less if they just did not have all those bad ingredients inside. (I also believe that the immune system will make itself stronger, so no vaccines needed, but why not ALL NATURAL vaccines, with NO toxins?) SOME of us vaccine opponents may consider that.

  80. I think it's a fine line that needs to be determined by the parents. Why some parents don't educate themselves on the matter is beyond me. Some people trust their Dr's too much. Unfortunately, the links that people want to see between autism, ADD, ADHD and don't have much basis in fact. One of the problems being, for every article someone shows me that connects autism to vaccinations, I can show you 2 that completely disprove you.

Are they having an effect, probably. Are we going overboard with vax's? Most certainly. But there are also plenty of other environmental factors to consider. Brest feeding vs bottle, stay-at-home vs. day care, active vs sedentary, and one huge factor I believe, is diet and basic lifestyle of American's these days. Since the 1980's we consume more processed food and have become less active than any generation since.....and it's only getting worse. I roll my eyes when I hear that parent X is not going to get their child vaccinated for "XXX" but has no problem filling their tiny bodies with food produced with chemicals we can't even pronounce. Milk from cows that have been pumped their own rounds of immunizations, antibiotics, and hormones. A largely corn based agriculture that uses genetically modified strains, and god-knows-what to produce mass harvests.

Too many, have become too reliant and trusting of big business, big pharma, and big brother. My only plea to parents out there, do your research!

  81. One of my biggest pet peeves, and this is slightly off topic, is that the same people who say "are you crazy, why didn't you follow the AAP recommendations for vaccination!" also allow their babies to watch TV, often in large amounts. A recent poll in Baby Talk magazine had 93% of respondents answer "Of course!" to "Did you let your child watch TV before age 2?". Not "yes", but "of course", as if that was a stupid question!

Fact is, a) the AAP very vocally recommends NO TV (not a little, not some, *none) before age 2 - and b) there are countless studies that have proven that Baby Einstein etc are complete junk science with little to no research behind them. I don't understand how people can ignore this recommendation, then imply that you're a monster of some sort if you follow the Sears delayed schedule.

  82. look i have 3 children and pregnant with number 4 Because of medical reasons my daughter can not be vaccinated while all of my others have been and will be my daughter at the age of 4 was on her death bed because she had not had her vaccines she nearly died of a disease that is easily protected against and i felt horrible knowing that if she had only had that needle then she would be fine The disease shes had was contagious and because my others are vaccinated they did not get it Thank gosh so i just dont see how people can be against soemthing that can save our children's life in the end

    ReplyDelete
  83. Ro Jordan--you can't know that if she had 'only had that needle then she would be fine.' Plenty of fully vaccinated people come down with diseases that they were vaxed for every day. Can I ask why your daughter can not be vaccinated? People with compromised health are less able to handle these diseases, where a healthy unvaccinated individual would most likely get through it just fine.

You just dont see how people can be against something that can save our childrens' lives in the end? Ask someone whose child is injured for life because of a vaccine...or ask someone whose child has DIED right after a vaccine. It happens too often.

    1. Erin, I am over 50 years of age and have traveled a bit, and have yet to meet anyone who had a child die due to a vaccination..... please send me a link to your stories. Thanks!

  84. My Son is 22. Thanks to some research I started 27 years ago on the topic of Vaccinations, he has never been vaccinated. He went to school for 17 years, and graduated from College. I simply filled out the 'exemption forms' at each school, and absolutely remained educated about what to do. It is ALL ABOUT EDUCATION of the Parent. Today, there are excellent resources available that were not available before. One of my favorite has been www.vaclib.org - which I have referred to other parents and grandparents. Once fully educated on the topic, there are choices and options. I encourage those who know the truth about vaccinations to remain wise with all their family's health choices - including eating organic and turning to natural health and well being...

  85. My now 13 year old got whooping cough when he was 8. he had the recommended vac schedule, I thought I was being a good Mom by getting his shots "on schedule". those coughs that wracked his body... if the vacs don't work I don't see the point... Small pox, polio yeah I see the point to plague diseases as long as they work or minimize life long damage. If the shot doesn't work then it's waste of time.
