Sandra Bullock Cuts Her Newly Adopted Son

A peaceful parenting reader passed along this Jezebel article today and we were hoping for a very different take than the news highlighted in the May special edition of People magazine.

Sandra Bullock is pictured on the front page with her newly adopted (from New Orleans) son, Louis, fully clad in an African-style necklace made by Sunny (her stepdaughter). According to Bullock, the necklace "represents all the kids." She continues [emphasis mine]:

I want him to know no limits on where he can go. I want him to experience all culture, nationalities, countries and people like I did. I want his mind to be open and free. We were raised that we are all the same. No one greater, smarter, more powerful. We are all equal. I would love for Louis to know that . He has a big, beautiful, diverse family. As long as he knows he is loved and protected and given the opportunity to touch and see everything, then I will have done my job as a momma.

Bullock seems hard pressed to stress her inclusiveness of all people, all culture, all nations, all religions -- especially after the recent media hoopla surrounding her husband, Jesse James, and his 'Nazi' photo from US Weekly that was splashed across pop culture headlines.

Bullock, who is not Jewish, explains to People:

The photo shocked me and made me sad. This is not the man I married. This was stupid, this was ignorant. Racism, antisemitism, sexism, homophobia, anything 'Nazi,' and a boatload of other things, have no place in my life. And the man I married felt the same. This is something I hope Jesse will address one day, but it is not the world I live in, or have ever lived in, and have any tolerance for.

So how does this tie into peaceful parenting and the fact that genital autonomy advocates have just lost any ounce of admiration ever held for Sandra Bullock? She continues to describe what was done to her adopted son [emphasis mine]:

A friend of ours helped arrange for a bris [Jewish genital cutting ceremony] at our house, because we couldn't go [to a hospital for surgery]. The mohel came to us. You have never seen adults more panicked about what was about to happen to their son, but the celebration and the amount of love we felt and the pride in the little man whom we love so, so much became the greatest moment I have ever had in my life.

Really?!

The GREATEST moment you have ever had in your entire life was the moment your new son had a 1/3 his penis painfully amputated? Violating HIS basic human right to bodily integrity? Forever impacting HIS development and sexuality? And not because you were naively misguided by some societal myth, but because you needed to dispel those nasty 'Nazi' rumors flying around overhead? Hmmm...

Maybe there is a reason his birth mother protected him from such things.

Note: Peaceful Parenting is 100% fully and completely in support of the adoption of babies who do not have mothers to care for them, and to loving, protective parents who will provide for and nurture them. We are not in support of these parents then cutting their new children.

Update: It appears Facebook users have started a page in response to this Hollywood event.

Sandra Bullock jokes about using the foreskin of "Korean babies" on her face in what she calls a "penis facial." Starts at Minute 2:45 below:

  1. I have lost respect for Sandra Bullock.

There was no need to circumcise him. She just did it for the sake of it. It is unnecessary and the majority of the boys in the world aren't circumcised.

She isn't even Jewish. There was no need to mutilate him.

    I am done with Sandra.

  2. OMG, I'm pretty sickened by this too. Bad move Sandra. Bad move!

    ReplyDelete
  3. That is completely disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I bet the hospital refused due to the fact that he exceeded the weight requirements/age requirements for a hospital circumcision without a general. So instead of considering that maybe she should not do it she just hired someone to do it in her house. Poor child! Poor, poor child.

    ReplyDelete
  5. That's too bad :( I really like Sandra Bullock (as an actress) but this makes me dislike her character very much. And they likely couldn't have this performed in the hospital because this baby is older than 1 month (he appears to be at least) and it would make sense since they say you can't do it after that age until 1 year and under general anesthesia. :( Poor babe.

    ReplyDelete
  6. UGH, that just sucks. The ignorance.

    ReplyDelete
  7. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! : (

    ReplyDelete
  8. What a shame. Why do celebrities speak out about having their sons cut, but yet so rare is it mentioned when a son is left intact.

    ReplyDelete
  9. friggin insane I tell ya!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Boooooo!!!!! No more Sandra or Jesse!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I also boycott Jenny McCarthy and every product she endorses for the same for the same reason.

    ReplyDelete
  12. So sad :( If neither of them is Jewish, WHY a bris? To me that is disrespectful to Judaism... yeah lets have a bris cause it would be fun to cut our child for no significant reason other then it would be cool to be Jewish for a day. (or am I missing something?? )

    ReplyDelete
  13. That's just awful to say it was the greatest moment of her life. Everyone I've ever known who witnessed their child getting circumcised said it was the most horrible moment of their life and they would take it back if they could.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow. Welcome not only to the world but to America beautiful little man, I am sorry it had to be such a traumatic entrance. I hope she one day realizes that she failed her first duty as your mother. To protect you from harm.

    ReplyDelete
  15. poor little man :(

  16. i *just* read the headline and got a physical stabbing pain through my chest..REALLY? REALLY SANDRA BULLOCK??? OH.EM.GEE.

    ReplyDelete
  17. this is really upsetting. I don't think anybody ever accused Sandra of being Nazi, so if they performed a Bris to "prove" how not against Jewish people she is.... ugh.... there are better ways than mutilating your brand new son... I am very disappointed. She WAS one of my favorite actresses.... now I don't think I can support her career any longer, knowing how proud she is of this abuse...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Firstly, beautiful baby boy. Secondly I lost some of my respect for her... I would have expected her to research her decision a lil more... How utterly disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That makes me so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  20. poor guy!

why do people keep doing this???

I mean, I understand the bunk excuses (cleanliness, etc) but how could a mother even think of letting her baby's penis be cut up? I can't even begin to understand. . .

    ReplyDelete
  21. As an actress she influences decisions other parents will make on circumcision because "hey Sandra did it, so will I"

    so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm so glad I left my son intact and I am doing my best to get information to as many people as I can. With that being said I just don't get why people could do that to their babies. And many say that they don't want to watch it be done because they "can't stand to see or hear their child in so much pain". Umm, hello? Then why CHOOSE to put them in that physical/ emotional pain and then worse yet- abandon them to be strapped down with a bunch of strangers. I just don't get it. Okay, I'll shut up now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. A complete failure of the responsibility to care for and protect the baby she adopted. Poor defenseless child. Scarred for life. But at least she enjoyed the party :(

    ReplyDelete
  24. If she'd had the tip of the child's nose cut off I wonder how we'd respond? If the child was a female and she had some folds of the baby's genital skin removed what would we say?

When people look at infant male cutting as a human rights issue, it ceases to become a 'private matter.'

    ReplyDelete
  25. I can't understand it....a bris...she's NOT jewish...a ... bris...what? I have lost a lot of respect for her.

    ReplyDelete
  26. this makes me so sad and angry. i used to love sandra bullock :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. He's so dang cute! Why, Sandy? He was born perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's not her fault she was brainwashed. :(

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is she Jewish or something????

    ReplyDelete
  30. Marissa - 'or something'

they had to dispel all the nasty 'Nazi' rumors flying around Jesse James, right?

Jennifer - you're right, she may be subject to misinformation just like the rest of us. But the thing is, when you ADOPT a child - and he comes to you intact - why on earth would you seek out a means of cutting him unless you really investigated it and found NEED for medical reasons? This wasn't just a line on a stack of birth papers she signed or a 'well, why not' response. It was planned, thought out. And not even for religious reasons, but because they 'couldn't get to the hospital' to do the amputation.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Damn, that sucks. I bet if most people fully understood the ramifications and what was actually taking place, they might think twice. Am I giving too much credit to humanity?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Noooooo. I liked herrrrr.
    Whyyyy. :(

    ReplyDelete

  34. this is terrible! how can anyone consider the words "genital", "cutting" AND "celebration" together in one sentence! my god! this poor baby....she has no right whatsoever......ugh this makes me mad.....

    ReplyDelete
  35. It doesn't sound like she's Jewish to me, just like someone who wanted it done and since they couldn't 'celebrate' in the hospital they wanted to do it at home. That does make it worse.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jess - I do think that MOST people, if given accurate and adequate sources for information will take the time to look into things and make a choice that is in the best interest of their child.

There are also the few who will remain willfully ignorant, or sadistic in their mannerisms, no matter what. And those are the people I don't really want around my own kid(s).

    ReplyDelete
  37. "I want his mind to be open and free". ... and I'll start by forcing a Jewish ritual cutting ceremony on him ... gggag

    ReplyDelete
  38. I've met a lot of stupidity and ignorance in my 7 years as a parent. I'm beginning to think there is a lot of truth to the phrase 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks'. As a carseat tech this is why I LOVE parents to be vs those parents who already have more than one child. They are much more likely to be set in their ways and couldn't care less about what I tell them is safest for their child. :( I am happy to say I'm not one of those parents and I learned a lot from the mistakes I made w/ my oldest, including circing him. *sob*

    ReplyDelete
  39. Genuine mistakes are made. I don't see this as being one.

Anon - I totally hear ya on the 'can't teach an old dog new tricks.' It is MUCH better when parents-to-be investigate things ahead of time because guilt is a terribly hard thing to overcome (and move forward from in positive ways). Kudos to you for being one who is wisely knowing-better, doing-better and making changes helping others along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That is terribly disappointing. Especially considering all of the things she had just said about racism and the like not having a place in her life. She committed on her son one of the biggest atrocities that is committed today. Really is sad.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yet another of many misguided individuals. So sad for that baby.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh wow urgh!

I hate it's even connected to Judaism, what the Jews did (cause now it is often circumcision) wasn't amputation (not that what they do is much better, at least it leaves them intact) - let's inflict a horrible unnecessary procedure on a defenseless child and blame it on a religion that has nothing to do with it and that's nothing to do with us anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh no :( I had always liked her too

    ReplyDelete
  44. If she was so panicked about what was about to happen to her son, why did she allow it to happen!?!?!?!? GAH. And worse, why did she actively seek it out - some 'friend' for arranging such a tragic event.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's a shame. Of all people, I never thought she'd do this. :-(
    I use to like her.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's not just wrong...but creepy how she says it's the best moment of her life. THAT is creepy.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Maybe she was dreaming of personally doing that to Jesse James at the time?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, I'm on the "don't really like her anymore" list now too. Sad. :(

    ReplyDelete
  49. Or Jenny McCarthy....

    ReplyDelete
  50. Isn't Jenny McCarthy the anti-vaccine actress?? That is gaggingly hypocritical...

    ReplyDelete
  51. I know, I was sooo upset to read that Jenny did that to her son so that "his penis would be pretty" I lost a lot of my respect for her that day How can you on one hand fight so hard to have vaccines made safe for children and on the other rip off a large part of your child's body for no good reason????

    ReplyDelete
  52. And this after a Jewish website last fall announced Sandra Bullock was not Jewish. Her grandparents were emigres from Germany but were Christian.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Re: Jenny McCarthy - I'm sorry that her son has autism, and I'm really glad that she's an advocate for vaccine safety, but some of her parenting choices early on were just terrible (yes, I'm judging). And it's a bummer to me that people read her books and laugh like it's all just some joke. The whole 'pretty penis' argument totally weirds me out. Are you planning on sleeping with your son?! Why does it matter to you what it looks like?!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Natalie, ITA and think the same thing! I hear the cosmetic argument a lot...CREEEEPY.

    ReplyDelete
  55. (I just puked a little)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ugh, and I was just happy for her over the past few hours after learning she had adopted a son. She sounds just like Christina Aguilera with the whole super-fun penis party. Gag.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm actually disturbed on more than one level. WTF

    ReplyDelete
  58. They probably wouldn't circumcise him in the hospital because he was older and over the weight limit for hospital circumcisions without a general.

    ReplyDelete
  59. GOOD POINT, Jennifer. I forgot about that stipulation in U.S. hospitals for circumcision surgery w/out general anesthesia.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I believe she "couldn't" go to the hospital because of publicity issues. They got him back in January, obviously they didn't want anybody to know. Crappy reasoning, but it makes sense.

    ReplyDelete

  62. on the 'pretty penis' thing and mothers being 'attracted' to their son's chopped penis -- i adore the way that jamie discusses this with his colorful sense of humor:

if you haven't watched his videos, they are worth 27 minutes of your time (each one is about 9 minutes long)

    ReplyDelete
  63. That poor little boy, this has genuinely REALLY upset me.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm really at a loss for words. I can't believe that not only would she bring in a ritual genital cutter from a different religion than her to cut her healthy, intact adopted child, she'd then choose to bring it up in an extremely public fashion and not just say it went well, but to say it was the greatest moment in her life? Wow. Disturbing.

We need to use this as inspiration to make sure we try even harder to speak out and reach people. We can make sure new parents are informed that this is NOT a good idea... That harming your child is NOT something to be proud of.

    Intactivists unite!

    ReplyDelete
  65. More and more mohels are happy to do a nonreligious circumcision at home, for their usual fee.

Many Hollywood movers and shakers are Jewish.

A large majority of California babies now leave the hospital intact, a change that began when CA Medicaid stopped paying for routine circ in 1982. Women of childbearing age surely chat about this fact on occasion. Bullock is blind and deaf to the cultural change going on around her. Finally, I bet that like many American women, the Anteater just makes her very uncomfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hmmm. Maybe I am societally dysfunctional, but this is absolutely not any more disturbing to me than the other several thousand anonymous baby boys who are very unfortunately subjected to this same torture and mutilation daily in hospitals across our beautiful country.

And furthermore - which of your other favorite actors have intact sons???

Would rather see spotlight on the few and far between famous parents who are homebirthing/non-vaxing/b'feeding/non-mutilating......there are some out there!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sandra Bullock said of getting her adopted son's penis ritually cut was, "the greatest moment I have ever had in my life" !?

Greatest moment ever?? What?? Disgustingly ignorant and sick! Another sexually handicapped male in the USA. I wonder if she would do this to a future adopted baby girl and believe it was the greatest moment she ever had. I believe she has lost her mind due to the recent breakup with Jesse.

    ReplyDelete
  68. How sad... My husband and I are currently adopting a baby and will be flying to west Africa soon to pick him up and I was very glad to here that the orphanage and area does not routinely circumcise their baby boys so we are fairly certain he will come to us intact! ...and he will stay that way!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I agree completely Dave!

    ReplyDelete
  70. This is so very sad. Does she even realise what she has done. The issue at hand? That by calling that the greatest moment only shows us that she has yet to feel the love a mother has for her baby by having such validation by performing it. I think all of us should let her know by writing her management. PP said that people will follow her lead, if she hasn't researched this issue it may be advantageous to get in her face on it. Here's her contact deatails:

  71. I hope many people will write letters to Sandra complaining about this. It is important that mothers know they do not need to circumcise their sons and that boys should be kept intact.

There are lots of pro-intact celebrities like Colin Farrell, Alan Cumming and Ben Affleck.

    Sandra needs to be informed.

    ReplyDelete
  72. There are so many things I want to say in response to this, but I'll say just one...sickening and dissapointing. Poor child.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm sorry that you all are so upset. I think a bris is a terrible "procedure" but when you say "maybe his birth mother would have protected him" that is a Terrible thing to say. It's apparent that birth mother was unable for whatever reason to do so, so this child was rescued from the TERRIBLE fate of growing up an african orphan. Please consider the two fates. I myself would much rather undergo FGM than grow up as an orphan without parents.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I was really happy so see that she had adopted him and then I read this article. I've lost ALL respect for Sandra. HOW SAD!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anon - This American baby was adopted from a mother in NEW ORLEANS (not Africa).

His birth mother did NOT sign papers to have him cut at birth (the rate of MGM is about 30% in New Orleans).

I have always wondered, if a birth mother chooses to protect her son at birth, why his adopted or foster parents would elect to undo his wholeness.

The question was not meant to be a disgrace to adoption in any way. But why alter a baby's body for any reason, at birth or adoption? And especially if he comes to you whole, healthy, and happy.

    ReplyDelete
  76. She'll be lucky if her son doesn't grow up to hate her for the rest of her life.

If I found out my adoptive parents did this to me, I don't know what I'd do...

    ReplyDelete
  77. The bright side is that in 18 years he'll be able to sue her. And there are some new advances in cellular matrix surgery which look promising. But in the meantime, he'll have 18 years or more of wearing an internal organ on the outside, exposed to abrasion and chemicals.

I never really liked her as an actress, but I was just starting to give her more of a chance (my wife is a fan). Now I can't - PHYSICALLY CAN NOT - watch her films. There are a lot of really awful things I want to call her right now, but I will suffice with "ignorant woman" and "unqualified parent".

    ReplyDelete
  78. So true! If the birth mother did not sign papers giving permission to have it done, then it should NOT have been done. It should be against the law.

    ReplyDelete
  79. What kind of message did Sandra Bullock give her son? Come live with me and you'll get hurt! How will he ever be able to trust her? He won't! Nor will he trust other women... Circumcision is a primal wound and every sexual experience for the rest of this baby's life will be on a neuronal background of pain.

Circumcision amputates 20,000-70,000 erogenous nerve endings that allow a male to ride the wave to orgasm. Sandra probably doesn't realize that the circumcised men she's with don't ride the wave to orgasm because, without those specialized nerves to provide feedback to the brain about what the penis is feeling, they can't. Instead, they suffer from premature ejaculation. As CJ Fallier wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1970, "...the fundamental biological sexual act, for the circumcised male, becomes the satisfaction of an urge and not the refined sensory experience it was meant to be." Sandra, you did the boy who was entrusted into your care no favors. He will never again know the wholeness of his body or the fullness of his sexual experience.

Circumcision was not a kind, gentle, or loving way to welcome a precious baby into your family.

    ReplyDelete
  80. there is something really sick in the head about this woman. She isn't even jewish and she had a bris for her son? and it was the greatest moment of her life?!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Somehow, I don't think it was the "greatest moment" in baby Louis's life. How sad.

    ReplyDelete
  82. You know, if there's a reason you can't have your child mutilated in a hospital, maybe there's a reason why you simply shouldn't have your kid mutilated....
    I'm terribly disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  83. While I agree with everyone, I wonder if she was really and truly educated on the why(not)'s of circumcision. We are all lucky to live in this bubble where we have learned this information. It wasn't long ago that I was unaware, that if I had had a son he would have been circumsized, because that is what you do in our culture. I think this would be a fabulous example of a way to spread the word about why circ's are not necessary, humane, or loving. but slamming her and saying how terrible she is isn't going to help anything and only make people defensive.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Look, the kid's entire existence is most likely going to be a platform "to make a statement." To bad for him. Maybe Sandra is taking out some displaced anger towards Jesse out on the boy... And the Jewish thing, really, let it go! Note my last name, my son is INTACT, despite the fact every other man in his family is cut. The Jews don't stone homosexuals anymore, so they can stop mutialting there men.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Well, working for the film industry, there must be a lot of jewish peer pressure -from where all this horror comes- to get this done for all their slaves.I heard that even Brad Pitt had to give his most precious bit in order to continue stardom. They are all slaves to the same INhuman factory

    ReplyDelete
  86. Shame on her. That's about all I can say. Most of Hollywood is setting horrible examples.

    ReplyDelete
  87. That is horrible. What person would to that to their child??!?! And with no anesthesia? That POOR baby!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sometimes i just have to step back, because here i am crying for another little boy, just like i cried for my oldest(after his circumcision and later when i admitted my mistake fully). She did it probably the same reason i did it...pure and utter ignorance. I look back now and wonder, wtf? I am such a researcher, i always have been. I researched carseats and formula/breastmilk, cribs or co sleepers, and even those little things that by the time you have your second aren't even worth worrying about...lol. YET, not once did i think to look into this. It was just what you did. AT the time i didn't know ONE intact male. Since TV shows and magazines are run by the US pretty much(or the ones i read) and all my male family members are circ'd that is were i got my info from. I mean what doctor would perform unnecessary surgery on a newborn, right? OR so my niave self thought. JUST sad how brainwashed so many people are. Glad i got unwashed by the time my second came around

    ReplyDelete
  89. just plain creepy. its like a semi famous bloggger who posted a picture of her kid screaming/crying with the subtitle "just after his circumcision" like it was NOTHING.

    so gross.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Note: Someone started a Facebook Page in response to Bullock's actions:

  91. What a sad day for that unfortunate child. She thinks that she is really cutting edge (pun intended), and wants to raise him with a "free and open mind" when her own mind is full of cobwebs? Let's not let him have a free and open range of sexual pleasure one day, duh! Maybe one day he'll sue her and the mutilator. I would.

I never liked her as an actress, especially when her character laughed at a German guy in some forgettable film for being angry with his "circumcision". She now joins the ranks with Rosie O'donnell and Sharon Stone (among others too many to name) in "Lifestyles of the Rich and Ignorant".

    ReplyDelete
  92. I hope that People magazine receives many strong letters that are full of references and not brash opinions, on why they should stop profiling such information :(

I am in complete agreement that the "proudest day" comment is sick...but now I'm even more confused, as the article states she is "going forward' with the adoption as a single parent. If the adoption wasn't final, how could she have mutilated him? What am I missing?!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Is there any legal recourse now so that the baby can be taken away? If he is not fully adopted, and she violated his human rights and abused him, can he be given to other parents who will protect him?

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think the story is disturbing...

But, I think that people are trying to suggest here that she should have her child taken away from her are wrong.

She is no doubt truly disillusioned... and her words were disturbing and will likely lead to further normalization of the practice for many people...

...but I don't think it means she is incapable of being a good mother. I think that many amazing people have been normalized to choose this practice for their kids (wrongly).. and I don't think she is necessarily MORE wrong than any of the other millions of mothers (or fathers) who have chosen this harmful practice, and subsequently violated the human rights of their child.

It is okay to lose respect for her, and to stop watching her films. But, I don't think it is our place to judge whether or not she can be a suitable mother. I think it is clear that she loves the child, and wants what is best for him.

Let's not invalidate our cause by making outrageous claims. That would be counter-productive. (That said, I realize some men who went through this practice as children are angry and upset about it, and that is understandable).

    ReplyDelete
  95. Oh my god, it should be illegal for adoptive parents to mutilate their new baby's genitals. I don't like Sandra Bullock anymore, she said she felt the nervousness at the ceremony which was her instinct to protect her baby, but then let it happen anyway? Crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I am done with sandra too!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I can't believe she is so completely selfish to mutilate her son for her own needs! AGH! I will never watch another movie with her in it.

    ReplyDelete
  98. There is, of course, a word for someone who enjoys watching pain inflicted on a defenseless child: "Sadist". (Or perhaps monster)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Wow! I am bummed that she did this as well. However, I've been doing A LOT of research on circumcision (male & female) and the fact of the matter is that the "cut" has been a norm in the U.S. for a long time now and while I deeply regret having my sons circumcised, I just thought it was something you did... at the time. I was truly ignorant. Please forgive her, for she knew not what she did. Social norms are very difficult to overcome and there is very little media coverage on the topic in the U.S. No doctor has EVER talked to me about it.. or seemed to be actively discouraging it and I've been to a lot of pediatricians. Only just within the past month, did I realize that it was even an issue myself.

    ReplyDelete

  101. I am Jewish. Circumcision of my son was the most devastating moment of my life, I’ll never repeat it with my any other son I’ll have. I regret deeply I was so ignorant. And she says it was one of the most enjoyable moments of her life?! Fucking sicko! I think she is some kind of sexual sadist. Poor boy, he isn’t even Jew… I hope he’ll sue her to the last penny for his genital mutilation when he’ll grow up.

  102. When I have a son, he will be circumcised because it's part of my beliefs, if you read the bible it is a commitment of one's faith to the Lord. That and my husband is circumcised. I see no harm in it at all. I've done my research I've heard the arguments and have still decided to circumcised my son when he is born. And if one cared about a babies rights, then why not make abortion illegal?!? It's a living person with a heartbeat, yet people kill babies. Smh. Go ahead and hate. :)

    1. Anon - in regards to your comments on what the Bible says about circumcision, you may be interested in these resources by/for Christians: http://www.drmomma.org/2009/06/information-on-circumcision-for.html

There are also ample Jews today who are electing to have non-cutting ceremonies for their boys, and resources by/for Jews here: http://www.drmomma.org/2009/06/circumcision-jewish-fathers-making.html

While the subjects of abortion and genital cutting of infants may both be important ones to have, they do not pertain to each other. However, if you believe that a child has rights to his whole body and being inutero, certainly he does not lose these same rights post-birth.

    2. If you're a Christian, the Bible actually says circumcision is NOT Christian. In fact, one of the early popes made circumcising a child a mortal sin. So if you think Christianity supports circumcision, you are dead wrong.

  103. Hmmm. I'm not Jewish, but 28 years ago I believed circumcision was proper due to things I'd read and heard. Of course, no Internet then, just whatever info was available. The hospital also said it was best. I asked if they numb the pain, do something for it and was told they do.
I remember seeing my son afterward and the crying, and wanted to hold him, hated the crying. It felt awful. Wasn't the best hospital anyway, mixed up my meds (O was very sick and toxemic )...they wanted me to stay a week and send him home. I was so disgusted that last day, I said I was going with my son. Enough for us both.

  104. I just heard about her new movie "Bird Box", which is about aliens who take over Earth but who look so scary you have to wear a blindfold to survive. I'm kinda like that with Sandra Bullock - ever since I learned she had her kid sexually mutilated I can't watch any movie she's in, because to me, she's a monster.
